The problem
Medicine is still built on snapshots of a system that changes by the hour.
90%
of drugs fail in clinical trials
Most failures stem from the exact questions that sparse sampling cannot answer: efficacy, exposure, timing, and safety.
Static
measurements for dynamic biology
Blood draws capture a single moment, not the hormonal rhythms that shape response, side effects, and recovery.
Blind
spots in dosing & care
Without continuous data, teams cannot see when a treatment is working, when it is drifting off target, or how to personalize care.
The platform
A wearable sensor platform that turns sweat into real-time hormone insight.
Niara pairs a medical-grade skin patch with data infrastructure built to translate molecular signals into decisions — spanning clinical research, drug development, and precision care.
A medical-grade wearable that captures real-time molecular data from sweat.
Continuous. The platform captures repeated hormone measurements over time, not a single snapshot from a single blood draw.
Configurable. Our sensing architecture is designed to target different hormones and endpoints across pharma, research, and care pathways.
Non-invasive. A wearable skin patch makes hormone monitoring easier, more scalable, and more patient-friendly than needle-based sampling.
A platform that translates hormone measurements into actionable insight for R&D and clinical teams.
Precision pharmacodynamics. Track how a therapy moves the hormones it is designed to influence in real time.
Dosing optimization. Surface patterns in pharmacokinetics and patient response to support smarter, more individualized dosing.
Safety & efficacy monitoring. Detect off-target effects and treatment drift earlier by following hormone dynamics continuously.
The science
Aptamer sensing built for continuous biology.
Niara’s platform combines aptamer-based molecular recognition with semiconductor field-effect sensing to convert sweat into a continuous stream of hormone data.
Aptamers are engineered molecular receptors that bind a target with high specificity. When linked to a semiconductor, that binding becomes an electrical signal — label-free, sensitive, and ready for continuous monitoring.
- 01
Apply the patch
The wearable patch is placed on the skin — discreet and comfortable.
- 02
Stimulate sweat
Gentle on-demand sweat generation creates a continuous sample stream without conventional blood collection.
- 03
Route the sample
Microfluidics direct the sample to the sensing interface while maintaining stable, repeatable measurement conditions.
- 04
Molecular recognition
Target hormones bind to aptamer receptors, shifting the local electric field at the semiconductor and generating a measurable change.
- 05
Real-time readout
The data is converted into continuous, analyzable hormone profiles for research teams and clinical decision-makers.
The evidence
Built on a validated sensing foundation.
The technology has demonstrated picomolar-to-nanomolar sensitivity, strong selectivity in complex biofluids, and real-time electrical readout across multiple hormones and biomarker classes.
Physiologically relevant sensitivity
- Estradiol detected from 100 pM – 10 nM
- Progesterone detected from 1 nM – 1 µM
- Luteinizing hormone detected from 600 pM – 500 nM
Selectivity in complex matrices
- Target-specific responses maintained in artificial sweat
- Selective against cortisol, progesterone, estradiol, BSA, and FSH
Real-time electrical readout
- Hormone binding produces measurable changes in current
- Label-free detection — no fluorescent tags or sample prep
Validated across biomarker classes & biofluids
The aptamer-FET platform has shown sensitive detection of hormones, neurotransmitters, and metabolites in serum, sweat, and cerebrospinal fluid. Existing aptamers enable rapid expansion to new targets.

The founders
Science and commercialization, in one team.
Niara is led by two co-founders pairing deep biosensor research with the experience to bring it to market.

Noelle Mitchell, PhD
Co-Founder & Chief Scientific Officer
Noelle is the scientific architect behind Niara's sensing platform. She earned her PhD in Chemistry at UCLA in the lab of Dr. Anne M. Andrews, where her thesis advanced aptamers for personalized medicine and health and wellness applications, and she now continues that work as a Robbins Postdoctoral Scholar at Pomona College.
Her research directed the development of aptamer-FET biosensors for hormone and neurotransmitter monitoring, with advanced aptamer-selection training at Columbia University in the lab of Dr. Milan Stojanović. She is a co-inventor on a patent for a wearable sweat sensor for ovulatory hormone monitoring and a published author in Science.
Highlights
- Co-inventor, wearable sweat-hormone sensor patent (WO 2025/184606 A1)
- $200K UCLA Innovation Fund Pitch Day award — first wearable patch for female hormone monitoring
